My third month at Zest has been a great one, I think – for a start the local MP Stephen Lloyd came in at the start of National Apprenticeship week to look at the business and to speak to me, along with the rest of Zest, about the apprenticeship scheme and also to ask me how my time at Zest is going so far. Myself, and the rest of the staff, had a picture taken with Stephen, along with representatives from Sussex Downs College, the providers of my apprenticeship, and local artist Elda Abramson and her apprentice Josh Thompson, for the Eastbourne Herald – look out for my second media appearance in a matter of months.
From the 4th to the 9th March I shadowed Becky the Production Manager. The week was spent learning new areas with-in the business, from how to use the till for cheque, card, cash and invoice transactions to new things on the Canon digital press– specifically file management-and I even got around to printing my first run of business cards. It’s great to think that something I produced is now being passed throughout Sussex.
I am now more confident with the business and how it runs. I have also dealt with my first customers, though I found it useful to have Becky standing by my side to help me if I got stuck with anything. I got to deal with everything from the customer arriving, printing and finally processing the invoice. I found this process satisfying and I know that the team were all impressed.
Talking of confidence, mine, in using the presses, has improved; I can now run and finish jobs more efficiently and quickly and the more I get to practice the better I get.
I feel really happy at Zest, I think I have made a positive start to the company and I also feel that I have been a good help to the business. I am looking forward to see what is going to happen in the future.
